About

Marissa’s Cinema is a series of cinematic stills that tell stories based off of my internal thoughts/dialogue and past experiences. The stills represent the most vulnerable and emotional moments of human nature. From relationships, to womanhood, to self-growth, to heartbreaks, some of my stills display subtitles that show personal thoughts that aren’t usually spoken out loud in those moments.

My art is inspired from the amazing Sarah Bahbah, a Palestinian/Jordanian-Australian Artist and Director from Los Angeles. She once said, “In being transparent with my thoughts and emotions, I am creating, when I am creating, I am healing.” This gave me the idea to use raw storytelling with my cinematography. Some of my stills and videos are based on my own thoughts, but some are based on my favorite songs, films, shows, or poetic quotes.

My photography/videography interprets my scenic visions of what a song lyric, quote, or thought would look like. Just like Sarah Bahbah, I am showing the transparency of deep emotions with every shot. As an observer, I use my creativity to not only reflect my own thoughts and feelings, but the notions of others.

This is art, not content.
